EXPEDITIONS

Travel to Discover

Almost every year, the DAI organises two trips to locations worthy of exploring.  DAI groups have gone as far west as Morocco; as far east as China and to most countries in between. Groups have cruised the Nile; visited the Fakhri sextant at Ulugh Beg’s obversatory in Samarkand; hiked to the “cotton castle” of Pamukkale. And this season the tradition continues.

The UN has designated eight sites in Algeria as World Heritage Sites. On this 8 – 10 day adventure, Friends of the DAI will visit five of them, plus the Casbah of Algiers, the mosque of Sidi Okba and so much more.  Rich with a history and culture influenced by the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Ottomans, and French, Algeria is the ideal cultural expedition for friends wanting to be on a road to discovery.

The DAI’s other trip stays closer to home. In 2025, the destination will be the Capitol of Arab Cultural and the visa/travel arrangements are easy.  There are many, many sites to discover and, surprisingly, most people haven’t explored the city in years.  In Cultural Season 29, one of the trips will be a “Staycation” in Kuwait City.  Staycation is a portmanteau of stay (meaning stay-at-home) and vacation. DAI’s Staycation Kuwait will feature all the elements that make the trips special. The group will be small and all the logistics, organised. The daily destinations have a lot to offer and the guides are expert in their fields.  The government will be encouraging visitors from abroad to come and discover all Kuwait has to offer.  The DAI wants to give friends here the same opportunity.

Details about these trips will be sent to all members of the Friends of the DAI.  To be sure you don’t miss out, you can join the Friends or renew your membership on online at www.darmuseum.com; via email to friends@darmuseumkw.org; or in either museum shop.
